SCFA Grant Allocations

The Commission allocates grants on behalf of the Swiss Academy of Science (ScNat) in order to :

  • help young scientists ;
  • promote seminars among swiss astronomical institutes ;
  • foster international collaborations.

Duly justified requests for the current year are to be sent in writing to the President, preferably before June. As a rule, the budget available for grants is shared among the various proposals and institutes. Requests sent after June may be covered if funds are still available. As an illustration, the annual budget for grant allocation is about CHF 10,000.-, and the amount of one request is generally between CHF 500.- and CHF 2,000.-.

Payment of the grant is made to the beneficiary once the bills and receipts have reached the President of the SCFA, before the beginning of December. As the money is sent by postal transfer, a postal or bank account information with an address should be provided.

As a matter of policy, only travel and subsistence expenses can be taken into account for SCFA grants.
