Pushing back the limits: detailed properties of dwarf galaxies in a ΛCDM universe

This movie shows the formation and evolution of a dwarf galaxy with an extended star formation history. The properties of the final system are similar to those of the dwarf spheroidal galaxy Andromeda II. A full resolution version can be downloaded here.

This movie shows the formation and evolution of a dwarf galaxy with a quenched star formation. The properties of the final system are similar to those of the Sextans dwarf spheroidal galaxy. 

This model galaxy is four times lighter than the model presented just above, however with similar final luminosity.  This is the consequence of its fast mass assembly in a dense environnement. This allows the galaxy to keep a large fraction of gas, leading to an enhanced star formation rate compared to other dwarfs forming in a more diffuse region of the universe.
